Mateyo Jakobi
Artist, Author, Actor, Absurdist
Mateyo Jakobi has been creating art since he was a child.
One of his very first memories was the day his father, who also loved to create art, brought home a new set of markers. Young Mateyo wasn’t allowed to use them, no doubt because of how expensive they were, so the boy attempted to convince his father to leave the room so the child could surreptitiously use the fascinating and colorful medium to create his own work of art. His attempts were futile.
Mateyo’s other early memories included the ghost of the Man in the Tall Hat who haunted his childhood home, a Victorian-style pioneer house in southern Utah. At night, without fail, a group of strange, black, thin creatures, as tall as the house itself, would gather outside his second-story window after the family had gone to bed. They made noises, muffled and ominous, but they never got inside - either because they didn’t want to, or there was some magic that kept the glass impervious to their efforts. To this day he still hasn’t figured out what they were or what they wanted.
He has dedicated his life to telling stories, whether it be through illustrating and painting, through writing and journalism, through acting and singing, or even through the lies he often tells merely for his own entertainment.
Mateyo Jakobi currently resides in northern Utah with his husband, Rus, and their two dogs - a pug called Devin, and a dachshund called Karen.
The four of them spend their spare time time-traveling after they achieved immortality by bathing in the blood of ancient pagans.
They also enjoy going to the movies.
